Following the re-location of my Hubby's job, I arrived in LFE (from S.E. Kent) last week and was so grateful to find your "Guide for New Residents" on this website. I am a total stranger to the area and it's not easy finding your way around, especially when you don't know a single person to talk to.

As Hubby is at work all day, I've been feeling pretty lost and isolated, but your Guide has given me some valuable information, such as local Health Services and shops and even the location of a local Teapot Group (which is on my list of 'things to do' next week) !

Unfortunately, none of our neighbours have acknowledged us as yet, although they do seem to be out working during the day, so maybe they will in time. Therefore, I was hoping to find a local Forum, where I could introduce myself and get to know the area even better (such as, in an emergency, which of the three Hospitals should I choose and where is my nearest Vet, etc. ?) and maybe even make some friends. Is there such a site ? Or does anyone have any ideas on where I can go to meet new people, please ?

Better still, has anyone ever considered being a 'Mentor' for those who are new to the area ? I have to admit that it never crossed my mind to offer my local knowledge of Kent to a newcomer and only now, as a newcomer myself, am I realising just how valuable that information would have been to a stranger.
